Using Your Interests to Support Emotional Growth

I’m Geek Therapy® Certified, which means I sometimes use interests like gaming, comics, anime, and storytelling to help clients talk about stress, anxiety, identity, and life challenges in a way that feels natural.

For many people, these worlds offered comfort, escape, and a sense of belonging during difficult times. They can also be powerful tools for exploring emotions, building self-awareness, and understanding personal experiences.

If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, overlooked, or unsure how to express what you’re feeling, this approach can make it easier to open up and reflect on what’s been shaping your mental and emotional health.

Here, you don’t have to filter yourself. You get space to be real, understood, and supported as you grow.

"Embrace your power to shape life on your terms, even when facing tough emotions and future challenges."

Hi, I’m Sean Subulade, LAPC

I work with people who have spent a long time feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or under pressure to hold everything together. That stress often shows up as anxiety, depression, trauma, or challenges with life transitions.

Clients say our sessions feel different because they finally feel listened to. I create a warm, conversational space where we talk through what’s been happening in your life and what you want to change.

I’m especially passionate about working with Black adolescents and adults, Black men, Black women, and first-generation Americans who carry a lot of responsibility and expectations. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel supported, and build confidence in yourself.

How Narrative and Psychodynamic Therapy Can Help

In our sessions, we may explore the stories you tell yourself about your life, relationships, and experiences. Narrative therapy helps you look at those stories with fresh perspective and decide which ones you want to keep and which ones no longer serve you.

We may also use a psychodynamic approach to understand how past experiences, including early relationships and life transitions, continue to shape how you think, feel, and respond today.

Together, we work toward greater self-understanding, healthier patterns, and a stronger sense of confidence in who you are.
